Clovelly

We are perfectly situated above the wonderful village of Clovelly where the cobbled street meanders to the harbour; unchanged for generations and well worth a visit. By staying close to the village you have the chance to visit early in the morning or enjoy a leisurely dinner when the tourists have all gone...then it's just you and a few locals!

There are many beaches both sandy (Bude or Westward Ho!) or small rocky coves in easy reach. The dramatic coastline of the Hartland peninsular should not be missed, enjoy the staggering cliffs and beach at Hartland Quay, or visit Hartland point and see the old lighthouse.

If you like visiting historic properties look no further than Hartland Abbey (much of the BBCs Sense & Sensibility was filmed here) the National Trust property Arlington Court close to Barnstaple or Tapeley Park at Instow.

The award winning gardens at Docton Mill Hartland (sample their cream tea too) or the RHS gardens at Rosemoor (Torrington) are spectacular at any time of year.

If you fancy trying out your sea legs why not visit Lundy Island just off the coast. The Oldenburg sails regularly from Bideford (10 miles) or charters can be arranged from Clovelly. You could always try a fishing trip to catch your supper or maybe just a trip around the bay.

For the more adventurous why not try diving; again available from Clovelly, or try your hand at surfing on a visit to Bude or Croyde & Braunton.

Try an hour or two wandering around the galleries or shops at Appledore and Instow or maybe just sit by the river watching the boats and enjoying a drink or an ice cream.

We are ideally situated to explore further afield. Try a day trip to The Eden Project about an hour and a half drive. Or Drive over Exmoor National Park taking in the stunning views of moor and sea. Stop for a while to visit Lynton & Lynmouth.

Just over the border into Cornwall visit the Land of Arthur & Merlin, Tingagel is only less than an hour away. Drop into Port Isaac and see if you bump into Doc Marten. Or try Boscastle and see the historic harbour and how the village has recovered from the horrific flood. For the gourmets how about Padstow the home town of Rick Stein.

There are plenty of great places to eat in the area with something to suit everybody, from cosy country pubs to gastro pubs and restaurants.

There are a number of Golf Courses in the area, which welcome visitors, and for our younger guests (or maybe just the young at heart) try The Milky Way Theme park (1 mile) or The Big Sheep at Abbotsham (10 miles).

Whatever you decide be it relax or explore you will be close to the sea in tranquil surroundings, let us make your stay a memorable one. A Devon farmhouse welcome awaits you.
